Watch Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich Advise Tweens on Love

Watch Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich Advise Tweens on Love

If there’s any grown-ass man who can give a pubescent girl dating advice without looking like a total creep, it’s Thom Yorke. In the latest segment of Rookie Magazine‘s (strangely fascinating) video series “Ask A Grown Man Advice,” Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich tackle matters of the heart a la Cosmo Girl — only way better, and with British Accents. Which, you know, makes everything sound infinitely more wise. From how to approach a secret crush to how to handle a thirst for infidelity, the two casanovas give their adorably earnest advice, providing enlightenment for shy tween girls and lustful “randy” ladies alike.

Previously featured “Grown Men” have included Paul Rudd, Jon Hamm, Jimmy Fallon, and Judd Apatow.

Watch Barry McGee Do Graffiti, Art

Watch Barry McGee Do Graffiti, Art

Art21 made a short video profile of Barry McGee and it includes footage of his street-bombing alter ego TWIST painting trains and other things. The clips of him doing graffiti are not exclusive, but the interview with him is. It was conducted in 2012 during his retrospective exhibit at the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives and contains this gem about the stifling nature of creating work for art institutions versus tagging:

I know how it works with the street: you have the maximum amount of exposure that you’ll ever get. Going indoors is like marching backwards. I’ve tried over the last ten years to do more things on a museum’s façade or outside, still in the public view. But I have varying degrees of success with that because it’s all kind of fake, or they become illustrations of what the real thing is…The whole exhibition is more of a guidebook.

Report claims iPhone 5S coming in multiple colors this summer

iPhone 5S (Martin uit Utrecht 001)

The next-generation iPhone, believed to be the iPhone 5S, is widely expected to land sometime this summer. This, despite the fact that the iPhone 5 just came out in September of last year, and Apple typically waits at least 12 months to update its handset.

And another report is out today in support of that theory. This one comes from the Japanese blog Macotakara, who cites sources familiar with Apple’s plans, in claims that both the iPhone 5S and rumored budget iPhone are going to be announced in July…(…)

Drive-By Photographer Takes Studio-Quality Street Portraits

Drive-By Photographer Takes Studio-Quality Street Portraits

Johnny Tergo is having his photographic cake and eating it, too. Using an elaborate setup in the back of a Chevy Silverado pickup truck, the photographer is able to quickly take street photos that have all the gloss and lighting of fine-tuned studio pieces.  The effect gives the everyday moments of Tergo’s native Los Angeles an exaggerated gravity, all high contrast and long shadows, and the reactions of the subjects to Tergo’s bizarre-looking rig (he also honks the horn to get their attention sometimes) only heighten the artifice.

Tergo’s methods are as ethically tricky as any street photographer’s–in the hands of a more critical photographer the work could be seen as a comment on the evolving nature of privacy–but he seems more interested in pure aesthetics. “What I’ve tried to do is bring the studio lighting aspect to everyday real life on the streets,” he told Wired, admitting that “A lot of people think [he is] up to something nefarious.”

Look at a few highlights in the gallery.

New iOS 7 concept shows off quick reply, widgets and other features

ios 7 concept

Word has it that iOS 7 is going be receiving a system-wide makeover, courtesy of the human interface team’s new leader Jony Ive. The changes are reportedly so big that developers with ‘carry’ privileges have a filter on their devices to conceal them.

Of course, we won’t know what iOS 7 really looks like until Apple unveils it this summer. But that’s not going to stop designers from creating concepts that illustrate what they think it could look like. And we’ve got another great one for you today…(…)
